Summer Demonstrations in Los Angeles Prompted Earlier Deployment

During the warmer months, there were sizeable protests regularly in the city after the urban area became a target of increased immigration raids. Trump sent the California's National Guard to suppress the protests in the summer, a significant move as uses are typically the responsibility of a state's executive.

Ongoing Demonstrations Connected to Enforcement Measures

Demonstrations have been continuing in the Oregon city and other urban areas over the president's heightened immigration enforcement. The city, in especial, has long drawn Trump's anger over its reported gathering of people his followers label anti-fascist groups, abbreviated as "against authoritarianism". The leader recently signed an official decree classifying the movement, which is a decentralized movement of radical left activists, as a homegrown extremist organisation.

The Oregon move occurred one day after the President ordered the deployment of three hundred reserve personnel to Chicago to tackle what he claims is escalating violence.
