The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
