The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical Tabletop Role-Playing Game

The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a tabletop RPG that explores the series' apocalyptic landscape. This initiative has been announced, with a funding drive planned to begin in April of 2026.

"This endeavor aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the table, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," states an announcement.

Initial offerings are set to feature a starter set, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and several premium versions.

Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World

In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, sending the nation into chaos. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions emerge, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the players come in.

Development on the game has been in progress for about several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to reach a wider audience, specifically in North America. Production will start right after the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for the latter part of 2026.

A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System

An early look at the system confirms it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic approach. Agents leverage skills or traits to roll a handful of dice, usually between one and five d10s.

  • Rather than summing the total, players choose a single “result die” from the pool.
  • This die is then measured against a target difficulty.
  • Rolling a natural 10 grants additional bonuses, such as extra damage or enhanced aid.

Combat Emphasize Tactical Placement and Situational Insight

Battles stress placement and environmental awareness, reflecting the source material. Factors like cover, elevation, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to reward coordination and clever tactics over raw numbers.

A Novel Health System

The way health is tracked introduces a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a injury limit; sustaining too much damage reduces their capabilities by lowering the number of d10s.

  1. At zero health, an agent collapses, but is not unconscious.
  2. They can still crawl and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
  3. Any player in this state must consult a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A publicly available Quickstart Guide is promised soon. It includes a pre-made starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group spearhead the search for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an assault by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup will be detailed closer to the Kickstarter start date.
