Rise, Sir David: Football Legend Honoured by the Monarch at Windsor Castle Ceremony
The football icon was bestowed with a knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. The former England captain, 50, was one of the individuals receiving awards for his contributions to athletics and philanthropy. In recent months, he stated he was “extremely honored” of being recognised in the monarch's annual honors list.
Soccer Achievements
Beckham first appeared in England's top division for the Red Devils in the mid-nineties and was part of the team that secured a thrilling Champions League final victory in the late nineties when they beat the German giants with two late goals.
Overall, he netted 85 goals and garnered accolades including multiple English championships and domestic cup wins as a footballer, before retiring from the sport in 2013. In addition to his sports endeavors, he has supported a number of charity causes, including serving as a charitable representative for global aid group the United Nations Children's Fund since the mid-2000s.

Charitable and Other Roles
In the previous year, the sports star, who has described himself as a “devoted monarchist”, was appointed an official representative for the royal educational charity, an non-profit organization founded by the King in the early nineties. In the late nineties he was declared most stylish man of the year by a leading publication and he has modelled for companies such as H&M, the Italian designer, and the luxury label.
Beckham married his wife Victoria in 1999 and the couple have four children together – Brooklyn, the second son, the third child, and Harper.
