Mikel Arteta Applauds a More Dependable Squad and Acknowledges Kai Havertz Injury Blow.

The Gunners' boss feels assured that his side can persist in handling with fitness issues after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been out since August following an operation on his knee. Originally slated to come back earlier in December, the manager stated the player hit a snag when advancing his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the required stage.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is much more reliable and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This development presents a selection headache for the midweek match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Remain

Further fitness issues affect centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably start again in central defence for the league leaders.

The manager is convinced the significant outlay on new players during the summer has left Arsenal in a more robust situation to handle such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

When asked if a larger pool of players was aiding their championship push, his response was positive. “Yes, as this campaign has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at this level. And the example of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Havertz

Speaking about the setback highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his personal desire to welcome him back. “The team is keen to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”

“His fitness history is phenomenal, he’s been always available, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back with the squad and playing because I think it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
