Cameron Norrie achieved the biggest success of his professional journey by rebounding from a set down to beat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Although he had before beaten Alcaraz on two occasions, this win represents Norrie's initial success over a current world top-ranked player.

"Bouncing back from a physical setback last year, I fell in the opening stage of qualies here. I just aimed to embrace my performance in the latter part of the year. To secure a win like this, it's the biggest success of my tennis journey, my maiden triumph over the global number one and likely the most confident competitor in the sport right now."

Norrie, seeded No 31, also stopped Alcaraz's impressive run of nine straight final appearances and 17 straight Masters 1000 wins, which represented the top run of results in the Spanish star's young professional path.

Alcaraz appeared to be progressing easily to success in the beginning as he eased through the first set. Yet, Norrie slowly fought his way into contention by serving with greater precision and engaging the Spanish opponent into lengthy, demanding rallies.
